Microdermabrasion is performed by a licensed skincare professional to ensure optimal results. This treatment can be done using one of two methods:
Crystal Microdermabrasion
Crystal microdermabrasion uses a special hand piece that gently exfoliates the surface of the skin using a stream of crystals. These crystals will polish the skin, and dead skin cells are suctioned away.
Diamond-Tip Microdermabrasion
Diamond-tip microdermabrasion uses a hand piece with a diamond tip to gently exfoliate dead skin cells. Similar to crystal microdermabrasion, dead skin cells are suctioned away during the process. This form of microdermabrasion is safer to use around the eyes and on sensitive skin.
Microdermabrasion can also be combined with a light chemical peel to increase overall effects.
Because there are minimal side effects associated with microdermabrasion, there is very little downtime. Patients may experience mild swelling and redness, though this should dissipate quickly. It is recommended that patients wait 24 hours before resuming strenuous activities. Sunscreen should be worn to protect the skin from UV rays.
Following treatment, patients will experience a healthy glow, though results can be seen after repeated treatments. The number of treatments recommended will be discussed during your consultation appointment.
