Plastic Surgery Center: Why Don’t All Surgeons Use Hospitals?
Question: Why do some surgeons use a plastic surgery center instead of the hospital?
Answer: Because not all Plastic Surgeons are Board Certified in Plastic Surgery!
A few things to keep in mind when looking for a Plastic Surgeon.
All plastic surgeons are not alike. Plastic surgeons certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) are uniquely qualified and specially trained. They have been proven to provide the best patient care and have the lowest rates of complications.
Do not assume that all doctors who claim to be “board certified” have the same training. Be sure that your doctor is certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgery.
Don’t hesitate to ask if the surgeon has hospital privileges.
This is important because hospitals do background checks. If they don’t have hospital privileges, that is a red flag. The hospital has balances and checks on the doctors who operate in their facilities. They know what a doctor’s credentials are and if they are qualified to be performing the surgery you are receiving. Also, if there is a complication, it is important to have a place to take a patient. Often times when doing a surgery in an outpatient setting, there’s nowhere to take a patient if you can’t admit them to a hospital. Safety first.
